Want to Dress Like You're on 'Downton Abbey?' Wish Granted.
by Shannon Keirnan“Downton Abbey” is certainly in the forefront lately.
Carnival Films, the production company responsible for the popular British period drama, is now releasing a clothing line inspired by the show.
What? I can finally dress for dinner?
Gareth Neame, executive producer on the show, says there’s a reason it took three full seasons to get started on those decadent gowns and luscious hats.
"It's a very slow burn the moment you get into retail, it's extremely cautious, it has to test the established brand…No one wants to launch products if the show's going to be a flop," says Neame, who is also Carnival Films' managing director.
Don’t feel like putting on a drop-waist and pearls to while away the evening (probably sipping one of those new-fangled “cocktails” and engaging in rousing political conversation), no problem. The company will also be releasing homeware, wallpaper, beauty products and stationery inspired by the show later this year.
If you’re going to dress the part, you might as well design the set.
“Downton Abbey,” believe it or not, is not the only show coming out with a clothing line. Banana Republic, in collaboration with “Mad Men,” will be developing a sleek line based on the show. Brooks Brothers has also announced that they are designing a collection based on Baz Lurhmann’s “The Great Gatsby,” which hits theaters in May.
One of these things is not like the other… if the classic vintage look isn’t your thing, don’t worry. GUESS is developing a line based on “Fast and Furious 6,” which will feature V-necks, mesh tops, leather jackets, and of course T-shirts with the movie’s logo.
Which line will you be sporting?
