'The Walking Dead' - What's in Store for Season 4?
by Zack WellsRobert Kirkman, creator of the comic series and executive producer to the show, speaks out about the Season 3 finale and what lies ahead for Season 4.
If you have yet to watch the Season 3 finale, what are you waiting for? I will not apologize for spoilers.
So, season 3 ends with the death of Andrea and the complete mental breakdown of The Governor. Comic fans out there are probably rolling around in rage at this point, as Andrea is still alive and kicking in the comics, and the Governor died when he attacked the prison… So what gives?
Robert Kirkman points out that the show and the comic are two different animals at this point, but that the show is still following the comic, “and you’ll see a lot of that in Season 4.” They strive to make the show “as dramatic, startling, and unpredictable as the comic book was the first time you read it.” And kudos for that.
Season 4 will see the female characters taking the central role, but it will also focus on our leading man Rick and how he moves forward from what happened.
In an exciting announcement, David Morrissey, aka The Governor, has been promoted to series regular for season 4, so that means we haven’t see the last of the Governor. But what will happen is still a mystery.
“We have The Governor, we have Rick, we have the prison. These are elements from Season 3, but everything is going to be radically changed and radically different in some very cool ways. I wouldn’t expect the same conflict or the same stories coming into Season 4. Things are going to be evolving quite a bit between seasons.”
“Knowing The Governor isn’t dead is going to weight on these characters when we come back in Season 4, and we’ll have to see where things go. It’s going to be different in a lot of ways. We’ll see a very different Rick Grimes, for one.”
In addition, a casting call has been put out by AMC looking for a man named Roy Stark, to be a series regular for Season 4. Little is known about him, as he doesn’t appear in the comics. He’s described as a former army medic who is deeply haunted by his past. As a result, he’s a loner, though he maintains a charming/self-deprecating/confident public façade.
Kirkman promises us “new locations and new places to discover and explore.”
So what do you think? How brave will Rick and his gang (which now includes all of the Woodbury survivors) be with the threat of a seriously unhinged Governor wandering about, fully loaded?
“The Walking Dead” returns to AMC in October.
