'Walking Dead' Spin-Off: What's It All About?
by EGThe "companion" spin-off of AMC's "The Walking Dead" won't hit the air until at least 2015, but anticipation is already ramping up. This early in the game there aren't even any details on what the series will even be about—other than it will be inspired by the same comic books that inspired "The Walking Dead"—but as The Hollywood Reporter reported this week, the series' producers have begun doling out some teasing speculation.
Creator Robert Kirkman warns that anything could be lurking in the "Walking Dead" universe beyond what we've already seen, and the new series could go in a wildly different direction.
"It's going to be remarkable just how different things can be just by going to a different location," he says.
Showrunner Scott Gimple has more specific ideas, but since there's no guarantee yet that he'll even be involved with the new series, his thoughts are pure conjecture.
"I'd start with Lee and Clementine, then I'd look for a cool place to set it," he says. "We'd do it on an island in the South Pacific. I have no idea what I'd have to do with it, but I'm excited to see it."
Chad Coleman, who plays Tyreese, would like to see the new series go for an exotic angle.
"I'd find a way to weave in what the apocalypse looks like around the world," he says. "Is there any way for us to have any communication to find out what's going on in Egypt?"
The only thing that's certain is that we're going to have to wait a long time to find out if there's truth in any of these hints.
