'Walking Dead' Spin Off Coming in 2015!
by EGSometimes it seems as though "The Walking Dead" gives us more zombies than we can handle, but it looks like we're going to have to deal with even more of them soon. AMC announced today that it's developing a spin off of the hit horror drama series.
The "companion series" is scheduled to begin airing on AMC in 2015, and network president Charlie Collier thinks the idea is "literally a no-brainer" (which should make it, literally, less palatable to zombies, right?).
There are no details about the subject of the series, although Collier says it will be based on Robert Kirkman's comics and feature "an entirely new story and cast of characters."
Kirkman expressed enthusiasm for the new show and implied that it won't be drawn directly from any existing comics.
"After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series," he said, "I couldn't be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe. The opportunity to make a show that isn't tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing."
