'Walking Dead' Finale Marks the End for Showrunner Glen Mazzara

'Walking Dead' Finale Marks the End for Showrunner Glen Mazzara Sunday marked more than just the season finale of “The Walking Dead”—it was also the final episode written and overseen by showrunner Glen Mazzara.

Mazzara has been with the show since its beginning as a freelance script writer. In season two, he took over showrunning duties from Frank Darabont—and has since earned critical acclaim for his work.

Under Mazzara’s guidance, AMC’s zombie drama has rocketed up through the ratings to become the number one show across cable, averaging over 11 million viewers per episode.

Mazzara also brought in two new characters—The Governor and Michonne, both of whom hailed from the comic upon which the show is based.

David Morrissey, who plays The Governor, had nothing but praise for Mazzara.

"He's done a fantastic job and the testament is on the screen. It's been brilliant working with him. He's the man who cast me and brought me into the show, I have great love and affection for him.” The Governor will also be appearing as a regular, for those who weren’t sure of the character’s fate last Sunday.

"I love Glen and I know he's an amazing showrunner and will continue to be one in the future on many different realms and ways. I wish him all the best,” added Danai Gurira, who was cast as Michonne.

Mazzara left AMC due to artistic conflict about the future of the show, and will be heading back to FOX, where his amazing career began. He has a shiny new development contract with the network, so cross fingers that soon Mazzara will be fielding a new show that audiences will love just as much as “The Walking Dead.”
