How Will 'The Walking Dead' End? Robert Kirkman Says He Already Knows

How Will 'The Walking Dead' End? Robert Kirkman Says He Already Knows With a new season of "The Walking Dead" starting up in October, zombie fever is still alive and well in the cable landscape.

But how will it all end?

Series creator Robert Kirkman, who also created the comic books, claims that he's already decided how "The Walking Dead" will wrap up.

"I do know what I’m building toward," he told Entertainment Weekly. "I don’t know exactly what issue that’s going to fall on, per se, and I do have a lot of road laid out before that that is going to take a long time, but I certainly know exactly what I’m building to."

Kirkman continued: "About a year or two ago, I finally nailed down exactly what I want the ending to be. So now I’ve kind of got two trails of story going in my head. One working to where I’m at very far into the future, and one working from the end backwards. When those two stories meet, then I’ll know exactly how long the story is. I’m rapidly approaching that point."

So at the very least, Kirkman knows how the comics will end. Considering how long they've been going and how well the show is doing, "The Walking Dead" might still be shambling along well after the comics have determined the ending, in which case the show might feel the need to change things up to surprise the audience.

And hey, if you don't like the ending Kirkman comes up with, there's always that spin-off companion series to "The Walking Dead" to look forward to.
