'The Walking Dead': AMC to Split Season 2, Provide 90-Minute Premiere There's a lot to be excited about already as far as season two of "The Walking Dead" is concerned: a 13-episode order, more than twice the length of season one, is in store, and things are going to get gritty.

Today we got a little bit of extra good news, as it was announced that the first episode of "The Walking Dead" season two will be a 90-minute one, just like last season. Consider that extra half-hour a reward for waiting a full year for the show to return.

But if you were planning on enjoying an episode every week for 13 weeks straight, you're out of luck: AMC will instead be splitting up the season two run into two parts.

The first part will run for six episodes starting in October and likely run through the end of November or early December. Then you'll have to wait a couple of months for the second half, which will return in February, presumably around the same time that "Mad Men" comes back.

While the wait might put me on edge for a couple of months, it's probably good to give the show as much time as it can get to pull each episode together. With the mysterious and controversial exit of showrunner Frank Darabont, the cast and crew might be a bit shaken.

The network is also planning a talk show of sorts to recap and discuss the scripted shows on AMC, possibly with comedian and "Web Soup" host Chris Hardwick on to host.
