'The Voice' Season 3, Episode 3 Video Recap - Blind Auditions #3
by Andy NeuenschwanderThe first two episodes of "The Voice" season three brought some huge performances from auditioners that had the audience bringing the house down and the rest of us in tears. Did anyone from the third night of auditions measure up? Check out the videos below and see for yourself!
Nelly's Echo
Team Xtina
Nelson Emokpae, who goes by the stage name Nelly's Echo, has the clear tone and intricate embellishments that brings to mind season one winner Javier Colon, though maybe not with the same power. Still, his voice and his almost reggae-ish cover of "Ain't No Sunshine" was enough to turn Christina and Adam.
Nicolle Nelson
Team Adam
Nicolle turned chairs late, but that's only because the woman knows how to show some vocal restraint. Her rendition of "Hallelujah" started out small, but when it swelled to that big hallelujah toward the end, it immediately turned all four chairs. However, Adam managed to turn his just a bit before that, so he got Nicolle on his team. Power vocalists aren't really Adam's strong suit, but he's known to have a soft spot for them, so we'll see how this goes.
DOMO
Team Cee Lo
You wouldn't expect an audition of "Don't Cha" from the Pussycat Dolls to be enough to get you through on "The Voice," but DOMO proved that it can be done, as long as you put some big embellishments at the beginning. What followed was less exciting vocally, but this Latin pop singer proved she has some moves and stage presence, which could be just what she needs to thrive with the theatrical Cee Lo Green.
2 Steel Girls
Team Blake
"We got a country singer!" yelled Blake as soon as he heard the opening notes to "Before He Cheats." Little did he know that there was actually a mother-daughter duo on stage. It's always fun to see the coaches realize that it's a duet, isn't it? Blake actually waited for Cee Lo to turn with him, but since Allison and Krystal are country girls, of course they ended up with Blake.
Samuel Mouton
Team Adam
Don't let Samuel's skater boy looks or suburban Colorado upbringing fool you: he's a pretty good reggae singer and rapper. His voice has a very listenable tone to it, and the uniqueness of a reggae singer in this competition helped turn Adam and Cee Lo almost immediately. Christina turned later, but Samuel eventually decided on Adam. None of the judges are particularly well versed in reggae, so it will be interesting to see where Samuel ends up and if such a specific style can work for this show, especially in the battle rounds.
