'The Voice' Season 2, Episode 17 Recap - Who Went Home from Team Adam and Team Cee Lo?
by Andy NeuenschwanderAfter two young contestants, Pip and James Massone, were sent home on Monday's episode, yet another young one was sent home Tuesday night.
Performances on the night included one from Florence + the Machine, whose music was performed in the finals last year by Vicci Martinez.
The first results for Team Adam had Tony Lucca saved by the audience vote, which was no surprise considering the crowd-pleasing cover of Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time" he performed last night. Also obvious was the audience's choice to save Jamar Rodgers, as his performances have been rousing and his backstory emotional.
That left Cheesa, Juliet Simms, Mathai and Katrina Parker to perform, with the first two competing for a save from Cee Lo, and the other two competing for a save from Adam Levine. Here's how they fared:
Mathai: Mathai came out with "Cowboy Casanova," taking a different tone than the happy-inspirational "I'm Like a Bird" from Monday night. It was a strong performance, though a bit shaky at times. Blake loved the country side of her, and Christina and Cee Lo applauded her aggression mixed with her charm.
Katrina: Katrina chose Pink's "Perfect," allowing her a bit of room to belt and show her one true advantage over Mathai. Blake and Christina both said they considered Katrina to be the best singer on Adam's team.
Cheesa: Cheesa sang "Already Gone," clearly chosen for the high notes to fit her power vocal style. It was shaky with some pitch problems, which Blake noted but thought it wasn't that important considering the performance. Christina agreed, and Adam noted the same issues.
Juliet: Juliet opted, oddly enough, for "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia, which seemed a bit poppy for her style, especially considering past performances of "Cryin" and "Oh! Darling." Still, she managed to insert some grit into it. Blake expressed regret over not turning his chair in the Blind Auditions, and Christina gave some constructive criticism asking for a little more rock and less soft stuff.
When it came down to the decisions for Team Adam, Blake and Christina sided with Katrina while Cee Lo sided with Mathai. Adam agonized and made noises for a while, but eventually decided that, for this competition, Katrina was his best bet to win. With that, the adorableness factor of the show dipped considerably.
The decision for Team Cee Lo started with Blake and Christina siding with Juliet. Cee Lo lauded both of his contestants, while both of them were in tears, but eventually ended up going with Juliet.
Eliminated: Cheesa, Mathai
The teams, therefore, now stand as follows:
Team Adam: Tony Lucca, Katrina Parker
Team Cee Lo: Juliet Simms, Jamar Rodgers
Team Blake: Erin Willett, Jermaine Paul
Team Christina: Lindsey Pavao, Chris Mann
