'The Voice': Will Christina Be Replaced with Shakira?
by Andy NeuenschwanderThere has been a lot of shifting around on the vocal competition shows this year. There was the replacement of Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger on "The X Factor" with Britney Spears and Demi Lovato, and then there was the major shuffle at "American Idol" that brought in Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and Mariah Carey. The only stable show turned out to be "The Voice."
But that could change.
"The Voice" has doubled down on its seasons, doing two a year instead of one. The second season of 2012 has just begun, and "The Voice" won't stop there: another season is planned for Spring 2013.
This has begun to wear on the four coaches (Adam Levine, Cee Lo Green, Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton), who have served in every season to date. Recently, they have voiced concerns about their ability to stay on if this pace continues, as they all hope to continue their music careers (and acting, in the case of Levine, who will star in "American Horror Story" this year).
In anticipation of a possible conflict, rumor has it that the show is already looking for potential fill-ins. Specifically, word is that Cee Lo Green and Christina Aguilera might not appear in the next season, and could be replaced with Usher and Shakira, who are supposedly in talks with the show.
Should Usher and Shakira take over, though, it might not be permanent: most likely, the original four coaches will remain the "core" mentors for the show, but might take leaves of absence for a season here or there and have a temporary replacement take over.
I'll say this: whoever takes over for Cee Lo had better bring in a cute animal to use as a prop.
