VIDEO: Watch the First Trailer for AMC's Western 'Hell on Wheels'

We have heard it over and over in recent years: America is more divided, more bi-partisan than it has been in decades. Well, just in time for this era of civil division comes the Civil War Era-based series "Hell on Wheels."

The series is the newest drama from AMC, who keeps striking gold with series like "Mad Men," "Breaking Bad," "The Walking Dead" and "The Killing." Set in the West in 1865, it follows the story of a man who seeks revenge for the death of his wife after she is killed by Union soldiers.

But the journey of the protagonist is only the surface, as is the case with other AMC dramas. In "Hell on Wheels," the subtext covers a number of topics including race, the struggles of the western frontier, and the challenges (and sometimes violence) involved in uniting a country.

The title might make it sound like a show about a motorcycle gang, but "Hell on Wheels" doesn't refer to any slogans painted on the back of a Harley rider's jacket. The show is set against the backdrop of the building of the Transcontinental Railroad.
