VIDEO: Robert Redford's 'The Conspirator' Trailer Drops

Though he's still heavily involved with Sundance,  Robert Redford hasn’t spent much time in front of (or behind) the camera in recent years.

But he did step behind the camera last year to direct the highly anticipated film "The Conspirator," featuring Sean Penn's ex-wife Robin Wright and James McAvoy.

There has been some buzz about the Redford-directed movie, but not much to back it up until now. The trailer for "The Conspirator" was just released.

The trailer shows a meaty section of the movie, where Abraham Lincoln has just been shot. The story follows officials who are in charge of bringing the people involved in the shooting to justice. The story looks much deeper than what the page or two tells us in the history books about John Wilkes Booth and the assassination.

Here is the trailer:

What do you think? Robin Wright (formerly Penn) plays an anguished mother, that’s for sure. Can she get a big award nomination out of this one? James?

From Movie Web:

Against the turbulent backdrop of post-Civil War Washington, rookie lawyer Frederick Aiken (James McAvoy) reluctantly agrees to defend Mary Surratt (Robin Wright) - the lone woman charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. When his colleagues, friends, and true love begin to desert him, Aiken must rely on Mary's spirited daughter Anna (Evan Rachel Wood) to help piece together the events leading up to the assassination. Facing down the government he fought so heroically to defend, Aiken quickly realizes Mary may be innocent and that she is being used as bait in order to capture the only conspirator to have escaped the massive manhunt: her own son, John.

This is sounding and looking better all the time – especially if you are a conspiracy theory person! The movie is set for release April 15th in the US. Will you be standing in line for a ticket?
