Video: The Extended First Look at 'Les Miserables!'
by Shannon KeirnanIf you’re as excited as I am about the upcoming “Les Miserables” film—have I mentioned how excited I am??—then whet your appetite with a new extended first look.
Listen to the actors discuss the amazing differences that live singing will make in the movie, hear snippets of songs and admire the gorgeous cinematography as you eagerly await its release!
“What will be exciting for the audience is that singing live has such a profound effect on the power and the realness of the story,” says director Tom Hooper.
Hooper is also responsible for the Oscar-winning “The King’s Speech.”
You can also check out Hugh Jackman singing, if you're into that.
“You are of the music. And it almost can make you cry,” says Amanda Seyfried of singing with little more than the help of a lone piano in her ear.
“What comes with this way of working is you get the fragility of a voice that matches with the emotions of what a character is saying. When I saw the trailer and Anne singing with this extraordinary fragility, that song, which I thought I knew pretty well, suddenly I listened to the lyrics for the first time afresh,” Eddie Redmayne notes of Hathaway’s version of the great and universally recognizable “I Dreamed a Dream.”
“There seemed to be something selfish about trying to go for the pretty version,” Anne Hathaway says, of the gritty and rawness the film promises audiences. “I just decided to apply the truth to the melody, and then see what would happen.”
“I thought there was an amazing opportunity to do something genuinely ground breaking,” finished Hooper.
The movie releases this Christmas.
