Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron are no longer making beautiful music together

Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens SplitThe buzz about Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron's relationship began on E! but by Monday afternoon, everyone knew the Disney duo had ended their nearly 4-year relationship. The couple met in 2005 and co-starred in the popular High School Musical franchise which made them idols among the teen and pre-teen crowd. They revealed in 2007 that they were a couple. They haven't co-starred since the final movie in the High School Musical franchise was released in 2008.

Both actors have begun serious movie careers. Zac Efron, 23, starred in the summer in the highly anticipated Charlie St. Cloud last summer. The movie received mixed reviews and did not make a great showing at the box office. He is currently shooting The Lucky One, a drama about a Marine who is a veteran of war. He has also starred in Hairspray and 17 Again, the latter with Friends alum Matthew Perry.

Hudgens, who turned 22 today, has starred in Bandslam and is starring next in Beastly, a modern take on the fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast that will be released in 2011.  She also has a starring role in Zach Snyder's' upcoming Sucker Punch. She is currently filming Journey 2, The Mysterious Island.

Since the kid's from High School Musical have graduated, it is unlikely their paths will cross again on the big screen anytime soon. Offscreen, the pair said they remain friends. It will be interesting to see who they are paired with next.
