'Vampire Diaries' Season 4 Adds Extra Episode, Teases Elena's Bloodlust

Here's some good news for fans of "The Vampire Diaries": the upcoming fourth season has been extended with an extra episode, bringing the total episode count for the season to 23.

It seems like the show might need it, too, with all the changes that are coming to Mystic Falls. The biggest one is Elena's transformation, which has been the talk of the offseason and the subject of many questions thrown at executive producer Julie Plec.

Plec sounded off recently about how Elena's bloodlust will affect Stefan, as she's more likely to act like the old him than the new him: "This is a guy who can't really get too close to human blood for too long without losing his mind, so it's like he's a guy who just got sober, and his girlfriend just turned 21 and wants to party, she said. "There are going to be some complications in their relationship as far as that."

Worse than that, Plec said that there will be a "powerful, surprising death sequence" during the premiere episode of the fourth season, wasting no time before creating some drama. Who's going to bite the dust?
