'The Vampire Diaries' Season 3 Episode 12 Preview Clip: Damon's Big Mouth

You can call Damon Salvatore a lot of things--handsome, sometimes heroic--but "tactful" is not one of them.

For yet more proof of that fact, check out this preview clip from this week's episode, titled "The Ties That Bind." It starts out with Elena and Bonnie searching through a mountain of records, trying to find Bonnie's estranged mother, Abby Bennett. Her services are needed to help open the mysterious, sealed casket which, as Bonnie explains, is held shut by a spell, and therefore falls under her jurisdiction.

Just when it's starting to look like the two won't find anything, Damon shows up with just the file he needs, which he procured with a little bit of vampire-style persuasion. But when he invites himself along for the reunion, Elena promptly uninvites him.

When Bonnie raises an eyebrow to how weird they're acting, Damon puts it as bluntly as only he can: "We kissed and now it's awkward," he tells Bonnie. Have fun explaining that one, Elena.
