'Vampire Diaries' Finale to Deliver Elena and a Major Surprise

The moment is finally here. The Vampire Diaries will come to a definitive end this week, and it promises to go out with some major drama. Part of that drama will be the return of Elena, as portrayed by Nina Dobrev, but showrunner Julie Plec has also revealed that the series finale will deliver another shocker. Someone important is going to die.

Dobrev's Elena has been popping up in flashback throughout the current season, but she'll be on hand in the flesh for the finale. Dobrev will also be playing Elena's evil double, Katherine, and her return will serve as the series' final Big Bad moment.

Plec has admitted that she's going to kill off one of the series' central characters before the end, but she hasn't let us in on who's the unlucky one. We know for sure that it isn't Elena, but beyond that, we don't have much to go on.

Good money is on Bonnie, since we've seen hints in a finale preview that she was technically dead for at least a moment. But did she stay dead? Or is that just a distraction to keep us from guessing who the finale's real victim will be?

The mystery is solved once and for all on March 10, when the series finale of TVD airs on The CW.
