The Twittersphere Hears the Casey Anthony Verdict, Summons Vigilante Dexter Morgan

The Twittersphere Hears the Casey Anthony Verdict, Summons Vigilante Dexter Morgan It's a mad, mad world out there boys and girls, and if the kids on Twitter think you're a guilty, you better watch out. They just might send a fictional serial killer your way.

Since the Casey Anthony verdict was released this afternoon, causing anger and controversy (including towards Kim Kardashian), fans of the Showtime show "Dexter" have been calling on fictional vigilante serial character Dexter Morgan (played by Michael C. Hall) to mete out the justice they think a jury was incapable of administering.

The picture to the left has been in heavy circulation, and since I started writing this article, over 907 new Dexter-related Tweets have come in. Make that 936. Make it...oh never mind.

The calls for vigilante justice after the highly publicized trial ended with a not guilty verdict are coming in from all corners of the world:

"JasonPratt: Dexter Morgan, meet Casey Anthony.

@CualquieraCae: Necesitamos a Dexter Morgan para que haga justicia en el caso de Casey Anthony.

Moises_BezerrA: #Dexter Morgan seria uma boa aqui no Brasil acabaria com muitaaa coisa RUIM!

GinnyWeasley7: Casey, you may have been found not guilty, but if you go missing in a couple days, we'll be thanking Dexter Morgan #caseyanthonyverdict"

While I just finished catching up on all five seasons of "Dexter," and am now convinced it may be one of the greatest shows in modern television (period), it is a little creepy just how much steam this meme has picked up and how fast.

While my personal opinion is that Casey's guilty as all hell and most likely a baby killer, the idea a bunch of angry folks might hop on Twitter, suggest vigilante justice and end up actually getting someone killed is a little scary in an f'ed-up post-modern kinda way.

What do you think? Are the quickly spreading visions of Dexter doing the plastic wrap plunge with Casey Anthony just fun and games, or is there something more sinister behind the Twitter trend? Let us know in the comments below.
