Universal Studios' Trash, HBO's Treasure: 'The Dark Tower' TV Series

Producer Brian Grazer told MTV recently that the TV iteration of the long-in-the-works "The Dark Tower" movie/TV adaptation has found a new small-screen home.

Grazer claims that HBO has picked up the proposed TV series that will tie in with the developing 2013 film rendition of Stephen King's beloved supernatural-Western gunslinger novels.

Prior to HBO picking the series up, Universal had dropped the project over looming cost concerns, despite the film's budget being cut by $45 million. The plan has long been that two seasons of the TV series would fill in the blanks of a proposed trilogy of film.

"When people say no to you enough, then you have to lose money, which we've done without harming the scope of the film," Grazer said.

As of now, Ron Howard still appears on board to direct the first film and the series' first episode. Arkiva Goldsman will script the three films and Javier Bardem - recently confirmed to be the next James Bond villain - will take up the role of series lead Roland Dechain.

Here's Grazer speaking with MTV News at the Tower Heist junket this past weekend to discuss the deal that looks to be a reality. As a bonus, he also gives an update about this returning Fox TV series starring this kid named "Cera" and his wacky family.

If that's something you'd be into, that is.
