'Twilight' Director Catherine Hardwicke's Next Star Actress? The Original 'Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'

It's safe to say that a few Yidio readers think director Catherine Hardwicke knows how to spot amazing talent when she sees it. Not only did she help launch the white-hot careers of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart with the original "Twilight" movie, but she was responsible for introducing the world to the immensely talented Evan Rachel Wood in "Thirteen."

So who will Hardwicke be introducing to U.S. audiences next? The original "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," Noomi Rapace.

Rapace needs little introduction to international audiences, who saw her tear the screen a new one as cyberpunk extraordinaire Lisbeth Salander in the original European film adaptation of Stiegg Larsson's novel, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo."

Based largely on Noomi Rapace's brilliant, tough portrayal of the revenge-seeking Salander, "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" grossed over $100 million internationally at the box office, and spawned two other films based on Larsson's Millenium triogy.

The first film is being remade currently for U.S. audiences by American director David Fincher, with Daniel Craig and edgy model Rooney Mara (check out the awesome trailer for the upcoming film).

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardwicke is slated to work with Rapace on "an untitled biopic of 60's Swedish diva and pop culture icon Anita Lindblom," with shooting slated to start in Sweden this fall. Rapace will be acting alongside her husband Ola Rapace, who will take on the role of boxing Bosse Hogberg.

Of course, Rapace will also appear in Guy Ritchie's upcoming "Sherlock Holmes" sequel "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows," so she may not be K Stew-level new news by the time she shows up in Hardwicke's new film, but we give the "Twilight" director credit for spotting incredible talent. Trust us folks, Noomi Rapace is the real deal.

Hardwicke Has No "Twilight" Regrets

While the success of the "Twilight" franchise has been staggering, and is likely to hit bonkers-level with "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn," Hardwicke isn't looking back.

Of not directing the other "Twilight" movies, Hardwicke told Newsweek back in March, “I do not regret it at all, thank the Lord. The truth is I liked the first book the best.”

In the Newsweek interview, Hardwicke also talked about her instincts in regards to casting Robert Pattinson.

Though she had some initial resistance to him after seeing a couple films, meeting Pattinson in person, Hardwicke said she "felt connected to him from the first moment. That electricity, or love at first sight, or whatever it is.”

When she cast Pattinson for the film, she told him:

“You’ve got to realize that Kristen is 17 years old. She’s underage. You’ve got to focus, dude, or you’re going to be arrested. I made him swear on a stack of Bibles.”

And we all know how that all worked out.
