'Twilight' Author Stephenie Meyer 'Absolutely' Feels Responsible For Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson Troubles
by Shannon KeirnanEveryone had an opinion on the very public split between Kristen Stewart and her “Twilight” co-star Robert Pattison last summer after a few revealing photos of Stewart snuggling with her “Snow White and the Huntsman” director Rupert Sanders… that is, except “Twilight” mogul and inventor Stephenie Meyer.
Meyer, however, is now admitting that she feels responsible for the trouble between the two, blaming their popularity in “Twilight” for bringing them so directly into the spotlight.
“Here’s the thing: there are some actors who are looking to be world famous, to be that household name, and although they might discover that there are a lot of negative things involved in that, it’s what they want,” the author said. “But that doesn’t apply to Kristen and Rob. That’s what makes it kind of ironic and tragic… [they] don’t enjoy the parts [of popularity] that other people would. And I totally get that, because it would not be my thing either.”
So does she feel guilty over all the media attention focused on the pair’s troubles?
“Absolutely,” she says. “At the same time—and this is where the guilt comes from—it’s created this nice, peaceful place for me. They took all of my heat, which I feel bad about. If they had the choice, I’ve no idea if they’d even do “Twilight” again. I just don’t know. I think this has all come at a heavy price.”
Take Meyer’s “heat?” Do you agree with the author, that she bears responsibility in this, or is the guilt of living well and quietly just wearing on Stephenie Meyer?
Her newest adaptation, by the way, “The Host,” hits theaters March 29th.
