TV Ratings: 'How to Get Away With Murder' Breaks DVR Viewing Record

TV Ratings: 'How to Get Away With Murder' Breaks DVR Viewing Record It was always a good bet that "How To Get Away With Murder" was going to do well in the ratings. But breaking DVR records? That's a surprise.

The new law school drama from Shonda Rimes ("Grey's Anatomy") premiered this week to great ratings on ABC, however the show placed second among freshman shows to Fox's "Gotham" in live ratings.

Now that the live+3 numbers are in though, "HTGAWM" can claim the top spot.

The ratings for the new show's premiere episode now stand at 20.3 million total viewers with a 5.8 rating in the demo. That's not only enough to overtake "Gotham," it's also enough to set a record for DVR growth with its 6 million viewer increase.

It was good news this week for ABC overall, as "Black-ish" also premiered to strong ratings and enjoyed an increase of 40% in overall viewers once DVR views were factored in.

Granted, it's still early in the new season and "How to Get Away with Murder" could face bigger challenges in its Thursday time slot once other programs premiere. But with so many DVRs set to record, the overall number of viewers might just hold steady.
