Trump Boycott! Groupon Pulls Ads From 'Celebrity Apprentice' Website

Trump Boycott! Groupon Pulls Ads From 'Celebrity Apprentice' Website I'm sure Donald Trump was anticipating that he would anger a lot of Americans in questioning the president's birthplace and school grades. I'm not so sure that he anticipated losing sponsors.

After fielding a number of complaints from their customers, online deals site Groupon will be pulling their advertisments from the "Celebrity Apprentice" website. Groupon had a sort of blanket deal with NBC in which their ads would appear on various pages on the NBC website...and that includes the page for Trump's reality show.

"Enough consumers have contacted us to warrant ensuring that we don't place ads on "The Apprentice" homepage in the future," said Groupon on their website. They noted in the post that it "isn't a political statement," rather they want to avoid upsetting large parts of their customer base.

This kerfuffle all stems from Trump's presidential bid.

The businessman has found success in polls among Republicans after once again raising questions about President Obama's birthplace. Obama recently released his long-form birth certificate, which Trump took credit for. That wasn't enough though, and Trump immediately set about questioning Obama's acceptance into Harvard, insinuating that his grades weren't good enough and that it was an affirmative action issue. This has prompted a big backlash, accusing Trump of racism.

Trump has also used "Celebrity Apprentice" as a publicity tool for his campaign, asking his contestants on the show "Do you think I should run for president?" and then threatening that they would be fired on the spot if they said no. That caused problems too, as it might mean that the Obama campaign will get free primetime broadcast time.
