'True Blood' and '30 Rock' Collect GLAAD Awards in New York

'True Blood' and '30 Rock' Collect GLAAD Awards in New York Every year, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation hosts a series of award shows to honor those in the media who have made efforts to portray homosexual characters in a positive light.

Among the winners this year were two phenomenal TV shows (and favorites here on Yidio), "True Blood" and "30 Rock."

"True Blood" earned the "Outstanding Drama Series" award for its positive portrayals of gay and lesbian characters like Nelson Ellis' Lafayette and Evan Rachel Woods' Sophie-Anne Leclerq.

Additionally, "True Blood" acts as a metaphor of sorts for the LGBT community and other minorities that face discrimination: the "outed" vampires and other metahumans on the show deal with all kinds of prejudice in Bon Temps.

NBC's award-winning comedy "30 Rock" picked up a new award as well, earning a GLAAD award for "Outstanding Individual Episode (in a series without a regular LGBT character)" for the episode "Klaus and Greta."

You might remember that Tina Fey's character Liz Lemon accidentally outs her gay cousin in this episode, and the ensuing story earned them honors at this year's ceremony.

The New York GLAAD awards have concluded, but additional award shows will be held over the next two months in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Future honorees include "Glee" guest-star Kristin Chenoweth, and presenters include Kirsten Dunst, Colin Farrell, Sean Hayes, the cast of "Modern Family", and others.

Who will win the future awards? Only time will tell...but "Modern Family" and "Glee" would certainly be good guesses.
