Tron: Legacy tops weekend box office, The Chronicles of Narnia ranks third

Tron: Legacy is a 3D science fiction movie starring Academy award winner Jeffrey Bridges and actor Garret Hedlund.

In the movie Bridges and Hedlun played the roles of a father and son (Kevin and Sam Flynn). Kevin (Bridges) is the world’s leading video game developer who disappeared mysteriously while Sam is a 27-year-old tech expert obsessed to find answers about his father, received a strange signal from Kevin’s old arcade.

Sam was pulled into a digital world, reunited with his father and both faced a deadly journey on a cyber universe created by Kevin himself.

Majority of Tron Legacy’s audience were fans from the 1982 Tron who went to see the movie with their special someone or family to experience the movie on 3D. The movie also entices youngsters who are video game enthusiasts.

On the other hand, the family movie Yogi Bear managed to secure the second position in the box office with an estimated $16.7 million in total ticket sales. Producers of the animated film are hoping for a higher result  during the midweek since kids are already off from school.

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp’s spy movie, The Tourist suffers a 47% drop with only $ 8.7 million this weekend due to negative reviews while the ballet thriller Black Swan is gaining popularity and interest among movie goers nationwide due to the nominations it received from the Golden Globe awards.
