Trevor Noah Bounces Back from Emergency Surgery; Jon Stewart Signs with HBO
by EG
The Daily Show host Trevor Noah underwent an emergency appendectomy on Wednesday morning, but Comedy Central reported that the surgery went well and that Noah isn't going to miss much work as a result of the procedure.
After Noah went into the hospital on Wednesday morning, Comedy Central aired a rerun of The Daily Show on Wednesday night. Fans who feared, though, that Noah's medical emergency would lead to his extended absence from the show will be happy to hear that Comedy Central expects the host to be back with an original episode on Thursday night. That episode is scheduled to feature guest Regina King, star of the HBO series The Leftovers.
Noah took over as host of The Daily Show after Jon Stewart retired from the position earlier in the year. Ratings for Noah's version of the show have been much lower than those of Stewart's; the audience for Noah's show is about a third smaller than Stewart's in both total viewership and in the coveted 18-49 age demographic.
Stewart himself made the news this week, too, by announcing a new four-year deal to produce content for HBO. It's not clear at the moment exactly what that content will be, but it will include short-form programming and possible film projects.
