Tracy Morgan May Not Recover from 'Traumatic Brain Injury' from Wal-Mart Crash, Lawyer Says
by Andy NeuenschwanderTracy Morgan is certainly doing better than he was in the early days following his traumatic car crash, but according to his lawyer, he's still not 100% healed.
"When you have a traumatic brain injury it takes a very long time to find out how you're going to do and how much you're going to recover," said Morgan's lawyer, Benedict Morelli. "You just don't know. So that's where he is. He's still fighting and trying to live his life at the same time and trying to get better, and he's just not better. We're hoping and praying to get him back to where he was. But the jury's out."
Morgan suffered the injury about five months ago, when a Wal-Mart truck collided with his limo. Morgan spent time in the ICU and recovered slowly, but his friend and fellow passenger James McNair was killed.
Now, Morgan is suing Wal-Mart because of the crash, claiming that the company forces its truck drivers to stay on the road for too long. Reports say that the truck's driver, Kevin Roper, caused the crash when he dozed off at the wheel. Prosecutors in Roper's criminal case state that he had been awake for 24 hours straight at the time of the crash.
Of course, Morelli has good reason to play up Morgan's brain injury when there's an ongoing suit, but in cases like these, brain injuries can have a serious and ongoing effect on a patient's health, mood and even personality.
"He's fighting to get better," Morelli said, "and if there's a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he's going to try to do that."
