Tonight's Fall Premieres: 'X Factor' Brings Us Britney [9/12]

Tonight's Fall Premieres: 'X Factor' Brings Us Britney [9/12] Though we're not quite in full swing just yet as far as premieres go, we're still getting a healthy dose of new and returning shows this week. Last night saw the return of "Sons of Anarchy" as well as two new NBC sitcoms and the return of "Parenthood." NBC premieres one more sitcom tonight, but the marquee event of Wednesday is the return of a Fox vocal competition show.

"The X Factor"

When Simon Cowell opened his big yap before season one of "The X Factor" premiered last year and said that he would be "disappointed" with any less than 20 million viewers, he sealed the fate of co-judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. There was no way that the show was going to bring in that many viewers without something to truly set it apart from the other vocal competition shows out there.

So here we are, one year later, and Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are on as new judges. Cowell is keeping his mouth shut as far as ratings go (instead he's yelling at "The Voice"). Could viewership hit 20 million in this premiere episode? Very possibly: how could we all resist seeing Britney back on TV?

"Guys With Kids"

NBC had a relatively successful night with "Go On" and "The New Normal" on Tuesday night, and "The Voice" rages on with a three-night set of blind auditions episodes (hence Simon Cowell's yelling). That should give this new sitcom a reasonable boost, and considering the early reviews, it might need it.

"Guys With Kids" is, as you might have guessed, about guys with kids. That's more or less the only joke of the show, as it plays the overwhelmed new parent trope as hard as it can. If that sounds good to you, you'll be happy to know that it's about all the show does. If not, well... maybe tune in to NBC on Thursdays.
