Tom Hiddleston in Talk for 'The Crow' Remake
by Shannon KeirnanBecause Hollywood has truly run out of ideas, a remake of the cult classic “The Crow” is now in the works, hailing from Relativity Media.
Tom Hiddleston is “in talks” for the key role of Eric Draven. The “Avengers” star has drawn interest to himself and away from the other actors who were considered for the part—James McAvoy, Mark Wahlberg, and Bradley Cooper, for example.
Hiddleston reportedly dined with producers, and sent them a makeup test that he did on his own. He will undergo an official makeup test soon, as “the character’s appearance is important to fans of the franchise, who should be delighted with the casting of a major member of Marvel universe.”
Are you “delighted” to hear Hiddleston may be stepping into the role made famous by the late Brandon Lee?
The character was based on the comic book series by James O’Barr, and in 1994 Miramax brought the film to the big screen with Lee playing a musician returning from the great beyond to avenge his death and that of his fiancee. During the final week of filming, negligence with the prop guns resulted in Lee being shot for real—a fatal wound. “The Crow” has been cloaked in urban myths and theories ever since. Can a remake compete with that aura of mystery?
The remake will be directed by F. Javier Guiterrez (“Before the Fall”) with a script by Cliff Dorfman (“Warrior”). Ed Pressman of Pressman Film and Kevin Misher of Misher Films are producing with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Jeff Most.
Dan Farah of Farah Films will executive produce with Relativity's Tucker Tooley.
Production is scheduled to begin sometime this fall.
