Future Film News: Tom Hanks and Tim Allen Taking a 'Jungle Cruise'

They have starred in three movies together already, but we have never actually seen Tom Hanks and Tim Allen in a film together. Hanks and Allen have co-starred in voice only, as the two played Woody and Buzz Lightyear in the "Toy Story" trilogy.

That's about to change, as Tom Hanks and Tim Allen have both signed on to star in a new live-action Disney film called "Jungle Cruise." If you have been to Disneyland (or Disney World), then you're probably familiar with the theme park attraction that takes you through a river to see a safari of animatronic lions, zebras, elephants, and other African animals.

Hanks will reportedly play a family man in the film who takes a jungle cruise on a tour boat captained by Tim Allen. The movie will be an action-adventure story, but will contain "unique aspects" to set it apart from the crowd, according to Hollywood Reporter. What those unique aspects are remains to be seen.

It's no surprise that Disney is attempting to adapt more of its theme park rides and attractions into movies, considering the success of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, the fourth installment of which ("Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides") is due out later this year.

Guillermo del Toro is slated to work on the "Haunted Mansion" adaptation, and "Tomorrowland" has been tossed around as an idea as well, with "The Hangover" writers attached. There's even a "Magic Kingdom" movie in the works, with Jon Favreau attached.

What, no love for the Small World ride?

The "Jungle Cruise" script will be written by Roger S.H. Shulman, who helped pen "Shrek" and recently wrote for Disney on the Jonas Brothers TV series "Jonas."
