TNT Schedules M. Night Shyamalan Horror Series
by EG
TNT announced this week that its fall schedule will include a horror anthology series produced by filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan, the writer/director responsible for The Sixth Sense and The Visit. Although details are sparse, it appears that the series will be part of a block of horror/suspense programming that will be put together under the control of Shyamalan and his production company.
The anchor anthology series will be a new version of Tales From the Crypt, the EC Comics title that was turned into a long-running horror anthology series on HBO in the 1980s. The new series will not be directly related to the HBO series, but it will include both short- and long-form horror stories and will include a Cryptkeeper character who will introduce the stories. Shyamalan has been tapped to direct the first episode of the series and may direct future episodes, as well.
After debuting to widespread acclaim with his first feature, The Sixth Sense, Shyamalan saw his star fade after a long string of critically-bashed films and box-office failures. His reputation was at least partially redeemed last year with the success of his latest film, The Visit. Shyamalan is also currently the executive producer of Wayward Pines on Fox, which this week received an order for a second season from the network.
