TNT Renews 'Falling Skies' and Two Other Series for New Seasons
by Andy Neuenschwander"Falling Skies" is getting one more year before saying goodbye.
TNT is renewing the sci-fi drama for a fifth and final season, according to Deadline. The report claims that five seasons was the length that producers were hoping to have for the series in order to complete the story.
"Falling Skies" has been a winner for the network, as it has recently averaged about 5.5 million total viewers once live views and seven-day DVR views are counted. By the same metrics, the show gets about a 2.1 in the 18-49 demo.
Performing even better, though, is the network's freshman drama "The Last Ship," which has averaged over 7.2 million viewers by the same live + 7 metrics. Interestingly, "Last Ship" is also a genre show of sorts, giving TNT major wins under the sci-fi/dystopian future banner.
Naturally, "Last Ship" has also received a renewal, and will be bumped up to a 13-episode order, three episodes more than the first season. Also renewed is "Major Crimes," which will be heading into its fourth season.
As for TNT's other shows, "Rizzoli and Isles" is all but a sure thing and is under negotiations for a renewal right now. "Murder in the First," which premiered this year, is yet to be decided.
