The Tick Set for Reboot at Last

The Tick Set for Reboot at Last

It's been a long time coming, but it looks like a reboot of the cult TV series will finally become a reality on Amazon, at least in the form of a pilot episode. Rumors of a potential reboot of the 2001 Fox series have been swirling for years, but this time it's the real deal, according to a report from Deadline.

The new project will be helmed by Tick creator Ben Edlund and original executive producer Barry Josephson. The proposed new series, however, will be a true reboot rather than a revival, since original star Patrick Warburton, who currently stars in the NBC series Crowded, will not be returning to the title role. Also missing will be David Burke, Liz Vassey and Nestor Carbonell, who played Arthur, Captain Liberty and Batmanuel, respectively. The new Tick will be played by an as-yet-uncast actor, and his sidekick, Arthur, will be played by Vinyl's Griffin Newman.

The original live-action Tick series aired only nine episodes on Fox in 2001, and it was preceded by an animated series on Fox from 1994 to 1997. Both series were based on a New England Comics series of comic books. The satirical story features a bumbling, yet over-confident, superhero who manages to cause trouble wherever he goes. Although the live-action Fox series failed in terms of ratings during its initial run, it was widely praised by a critics and has amassed a significant cult following over the years since its demise.
