Alice Kriege - most recognizable for terrorizing/seducing Patrick Stewart and nearly enchanting Brent Spiner as the Borg Queen in the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" big-screen turn "Star Trek: First Contact" - is officially slated for Marvel's 2013 sequel "Thor: The Dark World," according to ComicBookMovie.com.
The 58-year-old South African actress made the role official at the Star Trek: Las Vegas Convention panel, confirming a "minor" role in the Alan Taylor-directed follow-up. Principal photography should begin this month, and set preparations in England are reportedly already underway. Despite the groundwork being laid, new cast introductions have been sparse aside from "Doctor Who" and "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" veteran Christopher Eccleston joining to play villainous Svartalfheim Realm ruler Malekith the Accursed.
As with her heavily made-up role in "First Contact," Kriege confirmed she'll be made-up until unrecognizable, leading CBM to speculate she'll be playing Alflyse, Queen of the Svartalfheim Realm and the Dark Elves.
Maintaining somewhat of a parallel "batting order" of sequels, if one will, "The Dark World" will be the second Marvel offering to build toward 2015's "The Avengers 2" following the May 3, 2013, release of "Iron Man 3." In addition to Eccleston and now officially Kriege, the sequel boasts the returns of Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as his vengeance-seeking brother Loki, Anthony Hopkins as all-father Ordin, Jaimie Alexander as the warrior Lady Sif, and Natalie Portman as Thor's Earth-bound love interest Jane Foster.
"Thor: The Dark World" hits theaters everywhere Nov. 8, 2013.
