'This Is Us' Gets Renewed -- Twice
by EG
There was no doubt that NBC's This Is Us, which was the highest-rated new show of the 2016-2017 season, was going to be renewed for a second season. The network tried to bring a little drama to the series' renewal announcement this week, though, by renewing it not just for one more season, but for two.
The network announced at the Television Critics Association press tour that it was renewing This Is Us for a second and third season, each of which will consist of 18 episodes.
"There’s no doubt it will have a long life on NBC," said president of NBC Entertainment Jennifer Salke. "In a world where there are literally hundreds of television dramas, we’re proud to have one of the very best that is also one of the highest-rated."
This Is Us enjoyed enormous success right out of the gate, and it got support from the network very early on. NBC gave the series a full-season order immediately after its first episode aired to outstanding ratings. Not only is it the top-rated new show of the season, it eventually became the second-highest-rated drama on broadcast TV among the 18-49 age demographic.
The early order for a third season means that This Is Us will have a secure home on NBC through the spring of 2019.
