This Crazy 'Toy Story' Fan Theory Will Make You See Sid Differently
by Andy NeuenschwanderIf you've seen the "Toy Story" movies, you probably remember Sid, the sadistic kid who lives next door to Andy and does strange experiments with toys...including blowing them up with firecrackers.
What you might not have noticed is that, in "Toy Story 3," there's a quick shot of the neighborhood's local garbage man, who happens to be wearing the same shirt that Sid wore, and looks a lot like Sid, too.
Many have interpreted this as a sign that Sid turned out to be sort of a burnout, didn't do well in school, and ended up as a garbage collector. But a crazy new fan theory suggests that there might be more to Sid than we think.
Here's the theory, from Reddit user londongarbageman, who is indeed an actual garbage man.
"In Toy Story 1 Sid is confronted with horrifying revelation that his toys are alive. 15 years later in Toy Story 3 we see that Sid has become the local Garbageman.
Now being a garbageman has one of the biggest perks that you may not have realized. We find things. Lots of things.
I even found a 42 gal trash bag full of Lego
I don't have a picture of the matchbox cars I've found because there's just too damn many.
And don't even let me start on the Barbies.
Now, let's imagine you're a guy who just learned that inanimate objects are alive. What job would you get? Sid isn't fucked up and working a crappy job. He's trying to save them. He is trying to save the toys.
He picked the one kind of job where you can rescue those things.
And Sid is uniquely equipped to fix those toys that he finds that are broken. He's pretty damn creative."
So, according to this Reddit user, Sid didn't just think he was having a psychotic break when he saw Buzz, Woody and his other toys come to life. Instead, he took the experience to heart and started a job that would ensure that he could save as many toys as possible from ending up at the garbage dump, and maybe even rehabilitate a few.
So...do you buy it?
