Since 2007 nerds all over the world have been rejoicing over the sitcom hilarity that is The Big Bang Theory. I used to think that the show was a major exaggeration, but as I've gotten older I've come to realize that there are in fact people out there who have Sheldon Cooper tendencies. You know those people who just can't help but correct someone about something that is completely arbitrary? Those people who simply can't go through a conversation without turning it into a lecture? Those people who are so insanely neurotic that it's comical? They make life interesting, and I'd like to thank them for that.
But even though the show is a major commercial success, the stuff that has happened behind the scenes aren't so colorful. Check it out.
1. Melissa Rauch doesn't sound anything like Bernadette in real life.
That's right folks – the high pitched mousy voice is all an act.
2. Jim Parsons (Sheldon), Johnny Galecki (Leonard), and Kaley Cuoco (Penny) make a ton of money per episode.
The three main stars earn a whopping $1 million dollars per episode.
3. The rest of the cast only earns $750,000 per episode.
That's right, I said ONLY.
4. Mayim Bialik was on the show before she was on the show.
In one episode when Sheldon quits the physics bowl team, Raj suggests they replace him with Mayim Bialik, the actress who played Blossom, because she has PhD in real life. Her character wasn't even written into the show yet!
5. Johnny Galecki and Kaley Cuoco dated secretly for several years.
The two lovebirds dated from 2007-2009 and even their castmates didn't know about it!
6. The "Soft Kitty" song was stolen.
Co-creator Bill Prady heard the song at his daughter's pre-school, but in 2015 the show was actually sued by teacher/songwriter Edith Newlin who wrote the 1937 song "Warm Kitty."
7. Sheldon was supposed to be really sexually active.
The pilot episode saw Sheldon hooking up and showing romantic interests. Seems weird right?
8. Johnny Galecki was supposed to always be wearing a suit, not hoodies.
What is this alternate universe you speak of?!
9. Instead of having Penny, the original "hot chick" was supposed to be played by Amanda Walsh.
You know her from Lost Girl and Much Music.
10. There's an alternate version of the show in Belarus.
It's kind of hard to watch to be honest.
