'Teen Wolf' Star to Be 'Supergirl''s Superman

Henry Cavill won't be playing Superman in the upcoming season of Supergirl, but the actor cast to play to the role on the series is no stranger to fantasy TV. Tyler Hoechlin, former star of MTV's Teen Wolf, will play Supergirl's cousin in season 2 of the CW series, setting to rest speculation over how the series would handle its first foray into the wider DC Comics universe.
Hoechlin will play Superman in the first two episodes of Supergirl's season 2, when he comes to National City to visit the series' titular superhero, his cousin Kara. It's not clear yet whether Hoechlin will be featured in future episodes as well.
The casting of Hoechlin as a distinct for-TV-only Superman comes amid the revelation that some of those behind DC's TV universe are not happy that their fantasy world is set apart from the DC movie universe. Willa Holland, who plays Thea Queen/Speedy on Arrow, recently said at a convention panel that she's upset that her series was prevented from including characters that are featured in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and Warner Bros. also caused some controversy when it cast an actor other than Grant Gustin, who stars in the CW's The Flash, to play the Flash in the upcoming Justice League Part One movie.
