Grammy Shocker! Bieber Fans Attack! Esperanza Spalding Beats Justin Bieber for Best New Artist Award

Grammy Shocker! Bieber Fans Attack! Esperanza Spalding Beats Justin Bieber for Best New Artist Award Talk about a shocker. At the Grammy Awards last night, Justin Bieber lost out on the Grammy Award for Best New Artist to...Esperanza Spalding?

Spalding, 26 is a singer/bassist/composer raised by a single mother in Portland, Oregon. She was personally chosen by President Barack Obama to play at the 2009 Nobel Prize Concert in his honor. Her latest album, “Chamber Music” was one of the highest selling contemporary jazz albums this year.

Spalding beat singing sensation and fan favorite Justin Bieber, as well as Drake, Mumford & Sons and Florence & the Machine.

During her acceptance speech Spalding said, "I take this honor to heart so sincerely, and I will do my damndest to make a whole lot of great music for all of you."

After accepting her trophy, the Best New Artist winner praised Bieber’s talent at the backstage and said, "He is unquestionably talented and will have so many more records for his fans to sink their teeth into. Besides, he has great hair."

Justin Bieber was obviously taken aback when the winner for Best New Artist was announced. Although before the awarding ceremony the singing heartthrob sounded prepared to hear any unfavorable result from the Grammy awards when he tweeted, "Regardless of what happens today is a Great Day...so blessed and grateful. This is just the beginning,” the Bieber admitted to MTV that he was disappointed.

The Bieber said, "I had no clue what was going to happen, I worked really hard these past few years and you know, I'm not going to lie...I was disappointed." Despite his defeat, the young artist said he is inspired to work harder and he advised his fans not to get too upset and "Be Happy."

When Bieber Fans Attack

Angry Bieber fans immediately took out their anger on Spalding's Wikipedia page, as hackers broke into her bio page and added text that was both hateful and racist.

Screenshots of the hacked page on Buzzfeed show hackers turned her middle name to Esperanza "Quesadilla" Spalding and said "JUSTIN BIEBER DESERVED IT GO DIE IN A HOLE. WHO ARE YOU ANTWAY?"

The music community also expressed surprise, though without quite the same level of hate-filled rhetoric.

Usher wished Justin Bieber won the award, while the Roots drummer ?uestlove congratulated Spalding and tweeted, "Wow. Awesome upset! We are floored! Couldn't happen to a nicer person."

In one of the funnier reactions, the normally verbose Kanye West was perfectly prepared to let Esperanza Spalding finish when he tweeted, "Damn... I can't find the words to explain how I feel about the best new artist award...Don't wanna say the wrong thing."
