'Supernatural' Season 8, Episode 18: 'Freaks and Geeks' Recap
by Zack Wells“Supernatural”, season 8, episode 18, “Freaks and Geeks”
In Conway Springs, Kansas, Krissy and Aiden make out in a car parked in a popular make out spot, Fuller Point. They act as bait to lure out a vampire. The vampire disables their engine, and Aiden gets out to check it when the vampire breaks the window and tries to drag Krissy out, just in time for Aiden to decapitate it. He says that it was one of the vampires killed his family.
Sam and Dean respond to reports of vampires in the area, and meet with the local police. The officer tells them about two cases where the victims were drained of their blood, and then mentions an incident from the night before; Krissy, Aiden, and Josephine were caught on camera decapitating a vampire. He mentions they have an APB for the three, but Dean insists they call it off.
Outside, Dean points out that it was Krissy from their last run in. He tells Sam he believes something must have happened to her dad.
Elsewhere, Krissy checks into a hotel and sets up base camp with Aiden and Josephine. They go over security footage and determine that one of the vampires is staying in the same hotel as them.
Krissy directs Aiden and Josephine to the vampire’s room via headset and webcams. As she does, Sam and Dean break into her room, tipping the clerk to get her location. They ask her where her father is, and she tells them he’s dead. She tells them to leave because they’re in the middle of something. They look at the screen and notice Aiden and Josephine are in trouble, so they rush to their aide.
The vampire jumps out a window and Krissy and Dean chase it down. Krissy shoots it in the leg with a dart filled with dead man’s blood, rendering it immobile. Dean goes to kill it, but she stops him, saying it’s not his kill. Josephine appears and says that the vampire was responsible for killing her family, despite the vampire denying it. She decapitates it anyway.
Dean takes Krissy to the side and wants her to tell him what happened. She said that she and her dad had ‘quit the life’ of hunting, and it was wonderful. But one morning she found him dead, killed by a vampire. Then she found Aiden and Josephine, who also had their families killed. Dean tells her she’s too young to be hunting, and that he’s going to take her to her other family, but she says that Victor, the man who took them in and taught them everything, would have a problem with it.
At Victor’s house, they recognize Victor from years prior, from a mutual hunt. They are surprised to see the kids go to a real school, and are well cared for. Victor says that he’s raising the kids to be the next generation of hunters, to be better than the current generation, Sam and Dean included. It doesn’t sit well with Dean.
Outside, Dean says that he’s going to hunt the vampires for them, and for Sam to stay behind and keep an eye on them. As Dean drives off, a man in a van pulls up to the house. A van that has been seen at the scene of the crime.
The next morning, Victor asks Sam if he wants any kids, and he says no. Victor tells Sam about how his family was killed by a Wendigo. He says that the next generation of hunters don’t need to live like they did, things can be different.
Dean interviews one of the females that was tied up by a vampire. She says that the vampire didn’t kidnap her, but it was a man in a hoodie that drove a van. When she woke up, she was with Jimmy, a local war hero, who was crying.
Victor pulls the kids from school, and Sam asks why. He says that they found the vampire that killed Krissy’s father. He shows Sam surveillance footage of the vampire, which fires up Krissy, but causes Sam to have his doubts on the authenticity.
Dean calls Sam and tells him that the vampire that Josephine killed couldn’t have been the one that killed her parents, because he was a newborn vampire, less than a month old, while her parents were killed at least 3 months prior.
Dean heads to Conway Lodge after getting a tip that the man in the hoodie might be there. He finds a woman inside, confused and scared. It’s the woman from the surveillance footage that Victor said killed Krissy’s father. She tells that the guy in the van grabbed her and brought her there to turn her. Krissy and the gang arrive, guns drawn.
In the woods, Sam and Victor look for the man in a hoodie after spotting his van outside. Sam spots him, and as he goes to grab him, Victor knocks him out with his gun. The man in the hoodie, a vampire, smiles at Victor.
In the lodge, Dean tries to convince the kids to put down their weapons. He tries to explain that the vampire is a newborn and couldn’t have done it. Krissy says that she’s still a monster and needs to be killed. Dean says that she can be cured if they get her maker’s blood. The kids still think she’s the one responsible, but Dean doesn’t. He tells her that they’re going to take the newborn vamp to Victor.
In Victor’s house, Sam comes to. Victor begins destroying his house, telling Sam that he is going to kill him, and the kids will return home and find him dead, which will spur them to action even more.
The kids and Dean return home to see Victor and the vampire with Sam. Sam and Dean point out that Victor is working with the vampire, and that Victor had his vampire friend Seth kill their families. Victor tries to justify his actions, by saying that he had to motivate them.
Victor tries again to convince the kids to keep hunting, but they don’t buy it. So Victor signals Seth to grab Aiden as hostage. Krissy won’t allow it, and Victor threatens to hurt her. She shrugs it off and shoots Seth in the eye with dead man’s blood, paralyzing him. Then she draws a gun on Victor. Dean tries to talk Krissy out of shooting Victor, but she wants revenge. She holds the gun to his head and pulls the trigger. Victor flinches, but he isn’t shot. She unloaded her gun.
She turns to Sam and Dean and tells them to save the girl vampire. As she does, Victor grabs a gun and shoots himself in the head.
Later on, Aiden and Josephine give the cure to the female vampire. Sam gives Krissy back her father’s necklace. Dean tells Krissy to pack her stuff, but she says she wants to stay. Dean realizes it’s because she has a crush on Aiden. She says that they work well as a team, and that they won’t go looking for things to hunt. Dean says that he’ll have Garth come check on them once in a while. He also takes the chance to give Aiden advice on Krissy… If he ever hurts her, she’ll kill him.
Outside, Dean says that if they close the gates of hell, then Krissy, Aiden and Josephine will have a chance at a normal life.
