'Superman vs. Batman' Release Delayed

If you'd already made plans to see the "Superman vs. Batman" movie on July 17, 2015, you're going to have to change them. In fact, you're going to have to wait the better part of a year after that to find out whether or not Ben Affleck looks good in the Batsuit.

Warner Bros. has juggled its release-date schedule, and now the sequel to "Man of Steel" won't hit theaters until May 6, 2016, nearly 10 months later than originally planned. The new release date would put the Superman/Batman film in head-to-head competition with an unspecified Marvel-based movie that Disney plans to release on the same day.

So far, the Superman project, which is to be directed by "Man of Steel" director Zack Snyder, has drawn attention mostly for its controversial casting choices. Fans were not at all happy with the choice of Affleck to play the Dark Knight, and the casting of waifish Gal Gadot to play the Amazonian warrior Wonder Woman wasn't much better received.

The studio didn't offer much of an explanation for the delay but did say that production, which had been due to start this winter, has been pushed back to the spring. The film's script is currently undergoing rewrites courtesy of Chris Terrio, who wrote "Argo."
