Superman to Visit 'Supergirl,' Won't Be Played by Henry Cavill

Superman to Visit 'Supergirl,' Won't Be Played by Henry Cavill Fans of Supergirl got good news recently with the announcement that the series will make the move from CBS to the CW in the fall, alleviating uncertainty about the show's future. The news got better this week when the series' executive producer announced that Supergirl's cousin, Kal-El, better known as Superman, will be making an appearance on the series at the beginning of the second season.

Superman will be featured in the first two episodes of the season, according to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg.

"We cannot wait to see who next dons the red cape!," Kreisberg said.

That's a subtle way to making clear that Superman will not be played by Henry Cavill on the series, and there will be no direct crossover between the series and the upcoming Justice League movies. That's in line with the disconnect between DC Comics theatrical movies and other DC TV series. Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash on the CW series of the same name, won't be included in the Justice League movies even though the Flash will appear in them. The central character of the Arrow series won't be in the movies at all, despite the fact that Green Arrow is an integral part of the Justice League in the comics.
