'Supergirl' TV Show Gets Picked Up By Your Grandma's Network

Numerous outlets are confirming that a new "Supergirl" TV show has landed at CBS, with the network giving it a series commitment. That implies some serious confidence from the network in the show, as CBS would have to pay penalties if they don't pick up the to-be-filmed pilot to series.
It's an interesting spot for a DC Comics superhero show to land, considering that "Arrow" and "The Flash" live on CW and "Gotham" is making its home on Fox. Furthermore, CBS has lately been the home of broad, laugh-track-laden sitcoms and crime procedurals and rarely dips into sci-fi or fantasy.
One has to wonder how a series about a lesser known (but still, thankfully, popular) DC superhero will fit in with the likes of "NCIS" and "Two Broke Girls." Though, if anything, "The Big Bang Theory" fans might be the right crowd.
Still, it's good to see some of the comic book universe's female characters getting a TV show, especially after the failure of NBC's "Wonder Woman" attempt.
This won't be the first time Supergirl has been on screen, as Helen Slater played the role in a 1980's feature film. More recently, Laura Vandevoort played a version of the character in "Smallville." We've already talked about our dream casting for Supergirl, so we'll see what CBS does with it.
