'Supergirl' to Move to CW?
by EG
Fans of Supergirl have been on pins and needles, waiting for news about the series' renewal for a second season on CBS. The news has been very slow in coming, with Supergirl waiting in the wings while the network announces the renewal of many of its other series. Now it looks like there's one very important factor that's making the network reluctant to say yes to another season.
That factor is cost. Apparently CBS thinks that Supergirl is too expensive to produce and that its mostly lackluster ratings through its first season don't necessarily justify the cost. One of the biggest reasons for the series' high price tag is the licensing fee that CBS must pay in order to use the DC Comics character.
The network is reportedly considering several cost-cutting measures that would make a second season palatable. Those measures include renegotiating the licensing fee, reducing the number of episodes for season 2, and moving the series' production to a less expensive filming location such as Vancouver.
Also reportedly under consideration is the possibility of moving the series to another network if CBS backs out. The logical choice of a new home would be The CW, which already is home to The Flash and Arrow, two other DC superhero series from Supergirl's production team.
The discussions are ongoing, and for the time being, the fate of Supergirl remains frustratingly up in the air.
