Summer Casualties: 'Coach' and 'Under the Dome' Are Done
by EG
The fall TV season hasn't even started yet, but the carnage that is cancellation has already begun for some unfortunate series. One series that was slated to begin in the fall has succumbed to second thoughts at its network, and a summer series that was once a huge hit won't be coming back.
NBC has announced that it won't be moving forward with Coach, the reboot of the 90s series starring Craig T. Nelson. In the new series, Nelson was going to play Hayden Fox, his character from the original series, who comes out of retirement to serve as an assistant college football coach under his son. NBC was reportedly never very excited about the series, and the network has decided to pull the plug on production. There's a chance, though, that the series could be picked up by another network or online service.
Over at CBS, the producers of Under the Dome also got bad news when the network announced that it's cancelling the series after three seasons. In its initial season in the summer of 2013, the series, which is a based on a novel by Stephen King, was a giant hit, but its ratings have slipped significantly since then.
