Steve Carell on James Spader 'Office' Replacement: 'I Can't Wait'

As great as James Spader is, there are a lot of fans of "The Office" out there who wish that he wasn't coming on to replace the exiting Steve Carell. After all, Carell was the heart and soul of the show, and it just won't be the same without him.

But there's at least one fan that's really excited to see Spader take over, and that's Carell himself. While promoting his upcoming film "Crazy, Stupid, Love," Carell sounded enthused about Spader becoming the new boss of Dunder-Mifflin.

'I can't wait. I can't wait," said Carell. "I think it'll be great this year. I think James Spader was an excellent choice." So at least someone will be watching and enjoying life without Michael Scott.

But Carell has his regrets about leaving. "I just got e-mails from Phyllis [Smith] and Rainn [Wilson,] talking about how they're going back in a week or two weeks," said Carell. "That's the weirdest part, is that all my friends are going back to school, and I graduated."

Whether you believe that he "graduated" or "got out before the show totally jumped the shark," Carell and his antics will certainly be missed. Spader, for his part, may still be joined by another new cast member in replacing Carell.
