Sterling K. Brown is joining The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as a recurring cast member. The actor announced the news via an Instagram video, crediting creator and Executive Producer Amy Sherman-Palladino and Executive Producer Daniel Palladino with writing a new role for him.

Deadline hears Brown will be on the show for a three-episode arc.

In the Instagram video – watch it below – Brown, casually sipping a cup of coffee, says he’s in Los Angeles but is “eastward bound” because he’s “going to do a little TV show.”

“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” he says. “Maybe you’ve heard of it.” Then after letting out a hearty chuckle, Brown says the Palladinos “were kind enough” to write a part for him.

“I’m getting together with Midge and it’s going to be awesome,” Brown says, a reference to the title character played by Rachel Brosnahan.

Chrissy Metz, Brown’s This Is Us co-star, responded on Instagram, “Ooooooohhh yesssss!”

Brosnahan and Brown have made no secret of their hopes to work together on the series. In January, the Maisel star crashed a red carpet interview at the SAG Awards in which Brown was being interviewed by Entertainment Tonight (watch it below) to say how much she wanted him on the series. Whether the casting was already in the works at that point is unclear, but all concerned soon made it happen.

The Emmy-winning Amazon Prime Video series is currently in production on its third season.

Brown has four films set for this year, including Angry Birds 2, The Rhythm Section, Frozen 2 and Waves. He recently launched his production company Indian Meadows, with the mandate to champion persity while developing and producing “entertaining, educational and edifying projects.”
