Stephen Colbert Goes Eclectic with Late Show Guests

Stephen Colbert wants you to know that he's not David Letterman - or Jimmy Kimmel or Jimmy Fallon, for that matter -- and the recently released slate of guests for the first week of his new Late Show with Stephen Colbert proves that he's aiming to bring something new to the late-night talk show party.

The line up for Colbert's first week includes a few guests drawn from the obvious ranks of A-list celebs. George Clooney will be there, as will Scarlett Johansson and Amy Schumer. The musical guests will include a couple of acts from opposite ends of the popular music spectrum; Kendrick Lamar will perform on Wednesday, September 9, and Toby Keith will be on hand on Thursday.

But outside of those picks, the show's guest list looks a lot more like something you'd find on The Colbert Report. On Monday, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush will make a stop on the show, and Wednesday and Thursday feature appearances by two high-profile CEOs: Elon Musk of Tesla and SpaceX, and Travis Kalanick of Uber.

These latter guests suggest that Colbert isn't going to totally drop his interest in politics and current events in favor of the fluffy fare that typically makes up late night TV. What remains to be seen is how he will challenge his guests now that that he's giving up his Colbert Report persona and won't be able to use it as a tool for satire.
