Stephen Colbert to Cameo in 'The Hobbit' Trilogy!

In the most awesome bit of news for the day, Stephen Colbert has hinted that he will be making a cameo in the upcoming “Hobbit” trilogy.

While the funnyman won’t be making it to the first film, “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” fans can probably expect to see him cropping up somewhere down the line.

He let the tidbit slip during an interview with Playboy.

"Peter Jackson invited me to the set last year… I flew out and watched them shoot some scenes and went to some locations. I saw a 25-minute cut, and it was amazing. Jackson knows I'm a big fan of the films."

When asked if Jackson had hired him as an extra, Colbert fumbled pointedly, and, questioned on whether he would be making any appearances in the flick, coyly responded, “Could be.”

So what role will the “Colbert Report” host be playing? No word yet, but safe to say a large portion of audience members will be craning to see the sharp-tongued comedian expertly arranged in Hobbit or Dwarf get-up.

Colbert calls himself “a little obsessed” with the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy, and credits reading the series as a young boy for his interest.

“When I was 13, one of my friends pressed into my hands The Lord of the Rings and said, ‘You’ve got to read this.’ And I loved it.”

“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is set to be released this December. The prequel to “The Lord of the Rings” series, “The Hobbit” will follow a younger Bilbo Baggins as he and his rag-tag group of dwarf companions journey to The Lonely Mountain to defeat the dragon Smaug and reclaim a stolen treasure.
