'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Trailer: Sith, Stormtroopers, the Dark Side and the Light

It's here!

The first trailer for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is up online, and though the release of the much-anticipated movie is still a year away, the trailer features actual footage.

For a Star Wars fan, it's practically like an early Christmas.

The trailer is made up of a series of short shots from the movie, starting with John Boyega in a Stormtrooper uniform, sans helmet. The implications there are interesting, as Boyega clearly isn't a clone of Jango Fett, which was the case with all the other Stormtroopers in the other movies.

We also get quick shots of some other players: a woman on a new type of sand speeder, a Sith stumbling through a snowy forest (presumably Adam Driver or Oscar Isaac, both of whom are rumored to be villains) and activating a really cool-looking crossguard lightsaber.

A voice-over briefly mentions the "dark side, and the light" as we're treated to a longer shot of the Milennium Falcon, looking updated (but still a little bit like a hunk of junk) soaring through the air and fighting off TIE fighters.

The more things change...

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is directed by J.J. Abrams. Previously referred to as "Episode VII," the movie was recently retitled to drop the episode number, breaking with the rest of the movie franchise and setting up the possibility for more than just a trilogy of movies in sequential order.

This newest "Star Wars" installment releases in December of 2015. Check out the trailer below:
